Long time no see
It has been a long time, dear readers (those of you who have not abandoned this site as, well, abandoned). Having just returned from a tempura restaurant that was touted by those who planned the outting as the best tempura restaurant in Japan, and thereby most likely the world, I feel ready to once again return to my efforts to chronicle my life in Japan. So get ready, here it comes: a list of things that I have learned while over here. You know, about Japan, and life in general.
Tempura is awesome.
You may say I am living too much in the moment, as I have only moments ago returned from the Tempura restaurant (the term is too be used loosely as our table was outside in an alleyway under some train tracks). But if taking a variety of the freshest seafood (the place converts into a fish market in the morning, and doesn't even open as a restaurant until 1 am) and vegetables, dunking them in batter and frying them to a crisp golden brown is wrong then I am at least 90% sure that I don't want to be right.
I am actually pretty tall.
I have always thought of myself as of about average height, if not slightly below. Living here, however, has taught me that in the whole of the world, I am a pretty big guy, and I don't really mind that too much.

Japan definately has the coolest toys.
There cannot possibly be a better place in the world than Japan to be an action figure geek. There are cool action figures that are made in the US and other countries too, but they sell them here too. Toy stores up in the city are as common and as large as antique malls in southern Indiana (for those of you who don't know that is an impressive figure, hey look I used another meaning of figure in the same paragraph!).
Rice is a great way to add volume to a small amount of food.
What can I say, it is cheap, healthy (aside from the carbs) and goes with just about everything. So whenever you are cooking, and you don't think you have enough to fill your stomach, just through yourself some rice on the stove and bam you have a massive meal.
Alas, sad and thrown-together as it is, that is my list. I hope you have enjoyed it, and I will try to return sooner than later. Whatever that means.
